CHANDIGARH: To keep a tab on anti-social elements and strengthen the security system ahead of Independence Day, the Chandigarh Police launched a special campaign to verify tenants and domestic helpers across the city. During the campaign, different police teams verified a total of 18,497 tenants and servants in 15 days.
During this verification drive, Sector 49 police booked two women employers in Sector 48 for keeping domestic helpers without conducting their police verification. Over 15 days, verification of 9,586 tenants and 8,911 servants was completed by the 16 police stations of the city.
This initiative was undertaken on the directions of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur in response to increasing security threats and the need for heightened vigilance ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in the city.
A campaign was launched to recognise outstanding performance, with 27 policemen from six police beats being awarded a ‘Class-1 certificate’ and a cash prize for their excellent work. All the information recorded during this campaign has been uploaded to the e-Beatbook app. Recently, the administrator also instructed the police regarding the importance of tenant verification.
The verification campaign was launched on July 5, and police set up different verification camps in 16 sensitive and densely populated areas of the city until July 20, 2025. These areas included Kaimbwala village, Sector 11, Sector 23, Dhanas Milk Colony, Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 16, Kishangarh, Mauli Jagran, Village Faidan, Sector-21, 32, 35/36, 39, 63, and Manimajra. Data shows a maximum of 1,823 tenants and servants were verified by the teams of Sector 36 police station. Sector 36 police verified 1,196 tenants and 627 servants in 15 days. 1,780 tenants and servants were checked by Sector 19 police station. Sector 26 and Sector 11 police verified 1,683 and 1,635, respectively.
Industrial Area Phase-1 police verified 1,519, while 1,417 tenants and employees were verified by Manimajra police. However, Sarangpur police checked only 299 people, and Mauli Jagran police verified only 424. Sector 3 police verified 881 people, while IT Park police checked 954 tenants and employees of shops. In the tenant verification campaign, Beat No. 91 of Police Station-36 was the best. Beat No. 107 of Manimajra police station stood second and Beat No. 47 of Industrial Area Phase-1 was third.
Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP, Chandigarh, also requested the residents to ensure the police verification of their tenants and domestic helpers is done on time to avoid any untoward incident, as failure to do so can lead to action as per law.
