PUNE: Residents in fast-growing areas such as Ambegaon, Nanded City, Baner, Kharadi, Wagholi, Kalepadal, and Phursungi are facing hurdles while registering leave and licence agreements online for tenancy, as seven newly created police stations are yet to be integrated into the official e-registration portal.

The portal, meant to streamline tenancy registrations by linking submissions to the correct police jurisdiction, is currently reflecting only 33 police stations instead of the updated 40. As a result, tenants are being mapped to incorrect police stations, leading to confusion and potential legal complications.

“If a document is routed to the wrong police station, officials may deny receiving it, putting landlords at risk,” said Sachin Sanghvi from the Association of Real Estate Agents and Association of Service Providers. He said the group has raised the issue with Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar and requested immediate updates to the portal.

Recently, many landlords who were not registering were pulled up for not carrying out tenant verifications. “If they are assigned to the wrong police station, it would create a huge issue for the owner and tenant,” added Sanghvi.

He explained, “Tenants input their details during e-registration, which are automatically sent to the assigned police station. Landlords no longer need to submit this separately, making accurate mapping critical.”

The association had also approached the revenue department earlier, warning that the issue could escalate given Pune’s growing population and rising tenancy volumes.

Megha Kamat, a resident of Kharadi, said, “This needs to be fixed quickly. Otherwise, registrations are getting delayed or misdirected to the wrong police stations, which would be an issue for both tenant and landlord.”

RL Murthy, chairperson of a society in Phursungi, said that on one hand govt has been insisting on formal registered documents and on the other, such glitches in the system are creating issues. “The registration department must ensure that systems are corrected at the earliest,” he asserted.

Officials from the registration department acknowledged the snag. “We’ve received the representation and are working to resolve the issue. The updates should reflect on the portal soon,” a senior official told TOI, choosing anonymity.
