VISAKHAPATNAM: Property tax ownership transfers in Visakhapatnam will now be processed automatically for all properties registered at sub-registrar offices that already have existing GVMC tax assessments. This initiative eliminates the need for new property owners to physically visit the GVMC office or submit additional applications or paperwork to update property tax records after registration. By integrating the registration and tax departments, the streamlined process will save time and reduce hurdles for the new owners. The new system is scheduled to be implemented from August 1.
GVMC additional commissioner DV Ramana Murty said that the state govt has introduced this citizen-friendly reform to simplify property transactions within the GVMC limits. “As part of the process for purchasing land, buildings, or apartments, the govt has enabled the automatic updation of property tax records for GVMC-assessed properties at the time of registration. Buyers will now pay the applicable mutation charges directly at the sub-registrar office during registration. Once the process is complete, the new owner’s name will automatically be updated in the GVMC property tax database,” he explained.
“This initiative will save citizens significant time and effort, eliminating the need to visit GVMC or its zonal offices for name changes. The GVMC revenue department, along with registration office staff, should actively create public awareness about this simplified and efficient service,” the additional commissioner advised.
Registration and stamps DIG G Balakrishna and deputy commissioner (revenue) S Srinivasa Rao said that sub-registrar office staff and GVMC revenue officials should educate both visitors to registration offices and existing property taxpayers about the new system.
