GURUGRAM: DTCP has conducted a demolition and sealing drive, targeting unauthorised structures in the urban areas across the city.
Four unauthorised colonies spread over 9.5 acres, 18 boundary walls, an under-construction structure, two Pota cabins used for selling plots and an entire CC road network laid illegally were razed in the drive conducted on Friday.
Even in the licensed colony—Celebrity Homes—in Palam Vihar, an illegally constructed departmental store—Fresh Mart—in the stilt area was sealed. A day earlier, officials demolished a 7-acre illegal colony in Carterpuri with 12 DPCs, five boundary walls, and multiple structures/commercial structures were brought down.
On August 6, two illegal colonies in Mubarikpur (1 acre) and Iqbalpur (2 acres) were also cleared. The drives were carried out with police support under Palam Vihar and Farrukhnagar jurisdictions, signalling strict action against unauthorised structures.
Meanwhile, DTCP officials highlighted a growing trend of RWAs in the city misusing their authority to carry out illegal constructions in common areas of group housing societies. These unauthorised structures are often used for personal, religious, or social purposes, violating the Haryana Apartment Ownership Act and building bye-laws. “This office has been receiving multiple complaints from various societies where RWA boards are actively involved in illegal constructions,” a senior official said. “Such actions lead to legal violations, resident disputes, and misuse of community property.”
The issue has now been escalated to the deputy commissioner’s task force for further deliberation. Authorities are also considering the involvement of the district societies group to implement stricter oversight.
A key proposal under discussion is the appointment of administrators in RWAs repeatedly found violating norms. “If RWAs continue to misuse their powers and encourage encroachments, we may have no option but to regulate their functioning through appointed administrators,” the official warned.
