AMBALA: Haryana minister Anil Vij has announced an urban expansion plan for Ambala Cantonment, stating that the process to develop 7 new sectors under the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has began. The initiative is expected to significantly expand the city’s footprint, upgrade residential and civic infrastructure, and pave the way for Ambala Cantt to emerge as a metropolitan hub.

Expressing gratitude to Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, Vij said the state govt accelerated infrastructure development, calling the move a commendable step towards modern urban growth. Vij said the 7 sectors will be developed over approximately 1,000 acres spanning Ambala Cantt constituency and adjoining villages, including Ghasitpur, Buhawa, Shahpur, Brahman Majra, Kardhan, Sarsehri, Chandpura, Machhonda, Ugada, Dukheri, Salarheri, Ranwala, Manglai and Sambhalkhan.

The proposed sectors are Sector 27, 28, 36, 40, 40-A, 41-A and 42. These will include residential areas, open spaces, commercial zones, transport and communication facilities, and industrial plots, ensuring balanced and planned development. The minister informed that the state govt opened the e-Bhoomi portal for land aggregation for these sectors, with applications accepted until April 30, 2026 (over the next 2 months). Landowners willing to voluntarily sell land for sector development can apply through the portal.

Vij emphasised that the process was made transparent, assuring landowners of fair market prices and direct participation in the development process. Highlighting the long-term vision, Vij said the development of 7 new sectors will extend Ambala Cantt up to the Ring Road, marking a major step towards expansion and modernisation. He noted that the plan aligns with the city’s rapid growth and ongoing infrastructure projects.

Plan driven by Ring Road development

Vij recalled that, in view of the Ring Road construction, he wrote to the Haryana govt last year, urging the development of new HSVP sectors in Ambala Cantt. He also held meetings with officials and called for surveys along the Ring Road corridor to identify suitable land for planned urban sectors.

With the formal initiation of this process by HSVP, the Ambala Cantt expansion project is now set to move into implementation, signalling a major boost to urban infrastructure in Ambala Cantt and the wider region of Haryana, with administrative coordination from Chandigarh.
