JAIPUR: Nearly 2,000 residents from 87 colonies in Sanganer area staged a protest march Sunday, raising concerns over the future of their homes. The march caused traffic disruption on Tonk Road for nearly 4 hours.

Residents said thousands of families lived in these colonies for years after purchasing plots through registered cooperative societies and constructing houses with bank loans. Over time, basic civic facilities such as water supply, electricity, roads and sewer lines were also developed in the area.

However, the land was later included in an acquisition process by the housing board, creating uncertainty among residents about the legal status of their homes. According to local representatives, nearly 15,000 houses were already constructed across the colonies.

Members of Niyaman Hetu Sangharsh Samiti said they issued a 15-day ultimatum to the state govt seeking a resolution, but no action was taken. The protest march was organised to draw attention to the issue and demand immediate intervention.

Committee President Raghunandan Singh Hada said several appeals were made to the govt. “We met the chief minister and approached authorities through various channels, but there was no response. Even after our ultimatum, no positive step was taken,” he said.

Hada added that the govt should strongly present the case in court and explore solutions such as bringing legislation, convening a cabinet meeting, or de-acquiring the land to regularise colonies.

Residents warned that if their concerns were not addressed soon, the agitation would intensify, as the issue now concerned the homes and security of thousands.
