BENGALURU: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued a final warning to property owners who have defaulted on paying property tax, with dues amounting to Rs 33.9 crore pending from 1,010 owners across the five city corporations.
Special commissioner (revenue) Munish Moudgil said of the total pending amount, Rs 14.3 crore was due from 510 major defaulters, while Rs 19.6 crore was pending in 500 property tax reassessment cases. “The respective zonal joint commissioners were instructed to expedite recovery of dues from large defaulters and reassessment cases. The list of the top 50 defaulters and reassessment cases in each municipal corporation was uploaded on the GBA website. Property owners with pending dues are to immediately clear their taxes to avoid legal action,” he said.
Meanwhile, the authority has also intensified property auctions to recover long-pending dues. At KR Pura in Bengaluru East city corporation limits, two out of six identified properties have already been auctioned. Officials said strict action is being taken in cases where property tax has not been paid for more than a year, including auctioning of the property to recover dues. Under the Greater Bengaluru Administration Act-2025, it is mandatory for all property owners or occupiers within municipal limits to pay property tax annually.
The authorities said show-cause notices and demand notices were issued earlier to the defaulters, and sufficient time was given to clear the dues. Property owners were also repeatedly reminded through phone messages. Despite multiple opportunities, six properties in KR Pura zone were taken up for auction as per the provisions of the Property Tax Assessment, Collection and Management Rules, 2024.
During the auction process, four property owners cleared their dues on the spot, following which their properties were removed from the auction list; the remaining two properties were auctioned and purchased through bidding.
