NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday sealed two commercial properties in the Keshavpuram zone allegedly for non-payment of property tax dues worth over Rs 1.33 crore, an official statement said.
The civic body took the action as part of its ongoing drive against property tax defaulters, it added.
According to the statement, the properties located in Paschim Vihar and the GT Karnal Industrial Area allegedly accumulated significant outstanding property tax dues.
Despite being given multiple opportunities by the MCD to clear the dues, the accused property owners failed to deposit the pending amount, prompting the civic body to initiate coercive action under provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, it added.
Officials also urged the accused property owners to take advantage of the ongoing Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO) scheme to avoid punitive measures such as the sealing of properties.
Under the scheme, taxpayers can avail a complete waiver of property tax dues before the financial year 2020-21, along with interest and penalties, provided they pay the principal amount for the current year and the previous five financial years — from 2020-21 to 2024-25 — without interest or penalty.
The SUNIYO scheme will remain valid till March 31 this year, the MCD said.
