GURUGRAM: The department of town and country planning (DTCP) demolished an illegal meeting hall constructed by the RWA of EMAAR Palm Hills in Sector 77. The unauthorized structure was built in a common open area without DTCP approval, violating the layout plan.

The department cautioned that passing a resolution in the society’s general body meeting does not give RWAs the legal right to construct permanent or semi-permanent structures, especially on green belts or common areas demarcated for public use in the layout plan.

The department also issued a warning to RWAs against indulging in similar activities in the future. Officials clarified that RWAs are only responsible for maintaining the existing infrastructure within the housing society and have no authority to build new structures of any kind.

“Green areas and open spaces in group housing societies are protected under the approved layout plans. Any encroachment or construction on these lands without prior approval from DTCP is illegal and will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against violators,” said Amit Madholia, district town planner (enforcement).

The DTCP has urged RWAs to respect the sanctity of approved plans and not to mislead residents with decisions made in internal meetings. All such proposals, if any, must first be submitted to the DTCP for review and approval.

Residents and urban planning experts have welcomed the move, calling it necessary to curb unregulated development.
